Read below to better understand the different types of fabrics and their feel.

Two of the most popular types of fabric used in Lululemon pants are Luxteme and Luon. Whether you are making your first purchase or you have bought dozens of Lululemon yoga pants, it may be wise to research the difference in Luxtreme and Luon.

Luxtreme is what Lululemon suggest for you most high intensity workouts. This is the material you will want if you plan play sports, go to a crossfit or fitness class or want the most athletic look and feel. There are three different thickness levels – light, regular, and full-on.

Choose your thickness level based on the overall temperature of your workout. If you plan to be doing hot yoga or yoga in the summer months, you will want the light thickness level. If you do a lot of lacrosse, soccer or field hockey training during the fall and winter months, you will want the full-on thickness level. For everything in between, try the regular thickness level.

All Lululemon Luxtreme fabrics in yoga pants have the shiny smooth feel with high amounts of elastane making them stretchy yet very tight or snug throughout your entire lower body.

Luon is likely what you see most college girls and women wearing when they go for a run to the grocery store or simply want some style with amazing comfort. Luon comes in four different versions – Seriously Light Luon, Light Luon, Luon and Full-On Luon, ranging from thinnest to thickest. This is very similar to Luxtreme and you should make your purchase accordingly. You can absolutely do yoga and other low intensity exercising in Luon yoga pants but for the more high intensity workouts, you should get Luxtreme leggings.

Note that we often get asked if any of Lululemon’s fabrics or yoga pants are see through. In July of 2013, Lululemon was sued for selling see through pants and they had to recall them. Some thought this was going to be the end of Lululemon but it was really just the stepping stone to becoming one of the most popular athleisure brands in the world. Some would argue the see through pants made Lululemon a household name.

In 2021, none of Lululemon’s Luxtreme or Luon yoga pants are see through. Some bloggers may claim they are see through but we have seen no evidence that Lululemon has sold see through pants in the last five years. You can feel confident what when you buy Wunder Under or Align leggings, you will be getting the best leggings available today.

Here is a great summary we found on Reddit:

  • Luxtreme – thinner more technical fabric. Have the most compression, used for higher intensity workouts. Most of the running gear is made out of it.
  • Luon – thicker, more cotton like fabric. Typically in the mild to medium compression range depending on seam placement and overall cut of the pant. Recommended for lower intensity workouts (yoga, pilates, etc.).
  • Nulu – extremely soft and thin fabric. Has the most gentle compression of any tight material. Also only recommended for lower intensity.
  • Nulux – more synthetic feel, but thicker than luxtreme. Gentle compression like Nulu, and fits like a second skin.
  • Everlux – newest fabric. Has a soft feel almost like Nulu, but can handle high intensity workouts. Perfect hybrid fabric. Sometimes styles, like Wunder Unders, come in multiple fabric variation so make sure to read tag/online descritions before buying.
