The short answer is no. After completing all the requirements of Yoga Teacher Training you will receive an RYT-200 certificate but you are not required to teach at YogaSix Chapel Hill or any yoga studio. That being said, if you would like to teach at YogaSix Chapel Hill after the completion of all the requirement os Yoga Teacher Training, you will be asked to instruct three (3) community classes in which the lead teacher will evaluate your teaching skills. From there, it will be determined which type of yoga class would be best for you to teach. The six types of yoga classes at YogaSix are Power, Hot, Sculpt & Flow, Slow Flow, 101 and Restore. While taking Yoga Teacher Training, you will quickly understand what style or format works best for your personality and overall well being.
Why do we hold so much tension in our lower backs?
By attending a Yoga Teacher Training you will understand the reasoning as to why so many Americans hold tension and stress in their lower backs. The midsection and core are the fundamentals to a well balanced and healthy body. Unfortunately, the capitalist society we live in does not encourage good posture or taking things slow. Instead, we are raised to get places as quickly as possible no matter the costs. When mom or dad was walking around WalMart, Target or Costco, it is highly unlikely they were encouraging mindful walking and making certain the shoulders were relaxed down and back. We shouldn’t blame our parents or guardians, it is simply how things work in the United States of America. We do things big and fast. To have a great mind and body, it takes doing very small moments in a slow and mindful manner.
Almost every single everyday activity discourages the use of our core to support our upper bodies. When driving a vehicle, most people recline the seat back and slouch. When getting on an airplane, most people use a neck pillow and compress their spin in an uncomfortable seat. When walking down the street, most people are consistently in a rush so there is no opportunity for the muscles of the glutes, hamstrings and quadriceps to actually relax.
Throughout the entire Yoga Teacher Training (RYT-200) experience, you will get a better understanding of the ways in which yoga and breath work can reduce stress and tension in the lower back and hips. By learning how pigeon pose releases the hips or triangle pose opens the hamstrings, you will be able to create a sequence that opens the different muscle groups that will allow the back to enjoy a release.
